Gailen L. Reevers was born in Detroit Michigan and received his elementary and secondary education in the public schools of that city. He attended Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology. He continued his education and earned a Master of Science in Administration from California State University at Dominguez Hills, CA and a Masters of Arts, Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena CA.
He began his ministerial journey at Paradise Baptist serving in many capacities where he served from 1977-1984. He was ordained into the United Church of Christ in 1983 and accepted the call as Pastor at Pilgrim Congregational Church in 1984 where he served as pastor for ten years. In 1995, Reverend Reevers was called to be the shepherd at Lincoln Memorial Congregational United Church of Christ.
It is through his dedication to God, his being led by the Holy Spirit and his love for Jesus Christ, that Lincoln has been revived. Under the umption of the Holy Spirit, his God-inspired vision has led Lincoln to:
- Built the Lincoln Family Life Center and established the Lincoln Family Life Center Inc.
- Establish Church Programs that involved active participation by all members both male and female from infants to senior citizens.
- Organize and implement various community outreach programs.
- Increased church membership by 50% and quadrupled the annual budgets since he was first called to serve as pastor.
Reverend Reevers’ ministry has led him to serve in the community and the greater church. He has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the United Church of Christ Board of Homeland Ministries (UCBHM), Chairperson, UCBHM Division of Education and Publication, Member of Executive Committee Council of Higher Education UCC, and cofounder of the South Central Covenant Academy for Urban Ministry. He is currently President, CEO and Founder of Amistad Development Corporation. He partnered with Retirement Housing Foundation and built Amistad Plaza, a 56 unit affordable housing complex in Los Angeles. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches (LAM) and is a co-convener of the African American Church Strategy Team. Reverend Reevers is the husband to Cathy Reevers and father to Justin and Gailen Jr.
